Cadaver Cain is an Elemental and a "living" skeleton. 72 years into the future after Damocles Creed succeeds in his plan in finding the Child of the Faceless Ones, Skulduggery changed his name and continued fighting against the Faceless Ones
Biography[]
History[]
His history is identical to Skullduggery's up until Creed's plan. Malice reveals that Skulduggery took this loss poorly and eventually changed his name. He takes his first name from Cadaverous Gant (who Malice believes he was friends with) and his surname from his former ally Valkyrie Cain; it's likely he took the former's name to spite Malice due to her being abducted by him as a child.
Considering that his timeline was averted (due to Damocles Creed's plan being successfully stopped) yet he was still arrested, it's possible that he could still exist even if his timeline no longer exists.
Powers and abilities[]
Cadaver Cain shares all of Skulduggery's powers but has an edge over his past self. He has the ability to see all future timelines which allows him to successfully predict any action against him; however, this has its limits as it's shown that certain individuals such as Malice or Auger are a blind spot, meaning that he cannot predict their actions.
Being a necromancer and former Lord Vile, he is also immune to the death field from the Necropolis, something that gives him an advantage during his last battle against Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain.
In order to reach the past, he's shown that he's capable of possessing Valkyrie and then later manages to create a new body from Skulduggery's damaged bones.
Personality[]
Unlike Lord Vile, Cadaver manages to maintain his personality, though it doesn't make him any less antagonistic. He's revealed to have been in contact with the Viddu De, who have tasked him with turning the universe into a death field so that they make inhabit it and deny the Faceless Ones their homeland. He works with them willingly, implying that he's as every bit as omnicidal as Lord Vile but with far better control over himself. When he possesses Valkyrie briefly in order to return 72 years into the past, he gets into a fight with Tanith and takes great joy in the sensations of the human body such as pain or eating an apple.
Unlike Skulduggery, he's not as stylish in terms of clothing. He's chosen to wear casual black clothing along with a black trenchcoat, much to Skulduggery's ire. He's also later revealed to be on good terms with Uriah Serrate, due to their loyalties to the Viddu De and their Necromancy disciplines. When he does lose during his final battle, he simply accepts his defeat and allows Skulduggery to arrest him.
Malice considers him a sore loser, and it's possible that his first name was chosen to spite her. Despite failing to succeed initially, he continued to fight against The Church of the Faceless Ones and their tyranny which shows that despite his omnicidal mission, there was still some good left within him.

- Cadaver Cain is the second antagonist in the series to be an evil version of Skulduggery, with Lord Vile being the first.
- Considering his history, it's currently unknown if Cadaver can become Lord Vile or if he lost this ability.
- Co-incidentally, he shares a few similarities to Dagda from Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. Both of them are Irish skeletons who are considered "edgy", are associated with polytheistic groups (Tuathe De for Dagda, the Viddu De for Cadaver Cain), have a partner who has killed gods (Nanashi/Valkyrie Cain), opposes a god who is monotheistic (YHVH/The Faceless Ones) and both of their goals involve the destruction of the old universe. (Dagda wants to destroy the old universe and install the player as the new Creator God in YHVH's place; Cadaver intends to turn the universe into a realm of death so the Viddu De can inhabit it.)
