Doran Purcell is a character in the seventh book. He, along with his high-school friends Kitana, Sean and Elsie, are given incredibly powerful magic from Argeddion, as a test to begin giving all mortals in the world magic. Doran likes video games.

Kingdom of the Wicked

Doran and his friends go out regularly to practice their magic. At first, they just have fun discovering new powers they can do, but later they become dangerous and seek revenge on everyone who has wronged them in the past. Skulduggery and Valkyrie are at the crime scene of the murder of Doran's brother, who Doran dismembered. Valkyrie goes in to talk to Doran, and he pretends to be distressed, but he smirks. Valkyrie knows instantly that he is the killer, so Skulduggery and her follow him to a cafe where they confront the group, which results in a fight that nearly kills both Skulduggery and Valkyrie, but they manage to escape.

Later, Sean is captured by the sanctuary. When he escapes and returns to the others, they decide they need to kill Argeddion, after Doran finishes playing his video game. They confront Skulduggery and Valkyrie, and they agree to kill him. Skulduggery tells Doran to get in the accelerator to make him even more powerful and, reluctantly, he obeys. The machine starts lighting up and spinning and he screams, but he is then left with extraordinary power. He does this to the others too. They formulate a plan, using Greta Dapple to draw him in, then using more than thirty Sanctuary officers to shoot beams made from the accelerator to disable him, and finally getting Doran, Sean and Kitana to step in and fire beams of energy and punch and kick Argeddion. Greta Dapple then runs up screaming at them to stop, and Kitana punches her in the face, and Greta dies instantly. Valkyrie lunges at Kitana and so begins another fight, and Skulduggery and Valkyrie lose yet again. Kitana and the others take Argeddion's unconscious body to imprison in the cube.

When Valkyrie wakes up, Skulduggery has found Lord Vile's armour, hidden in Greta Dapple's backyard. They find the three teenagers in the Sanctuary at the cube, trying to work out how to use it. Skulduggery approaches them holding the armour. He tries to reason with them, but Kitana doesn't listen. He takes out the armour and puts in on, thus turning himself into Lord Vile. Vile fights the teenagers, but they are slightly stronger than him, and he falls down. Kitana punches her fist through Valkyrie's chest and bursts her heart. Valkyrie then turns into Darquesse and heals herself. Vile and Darquesse fight Sean, Kitana and Doran, and eventually the duo start to win. Darquesse rips them apart and leaves them to heal themselves.
