Martin Flanery is the American president in the Skulduggery Pleasant series. He is in office during Resurrection and was probably elected some time after The Dying of the Light.

Personality[]

Flanery likes to bully people, making him feel powerful. However, when people stand up to him he quickly becomes angry, yet is shown to be defenceless when Crepuscular Vies kills Wilkes and reveals that he's a sorcerer before effectively taking control of the situation. He is also power-hungry and sadistic, shown when he uses Magenta to fulfill his political needs and when told by Wilkes that Magenta cried about not being able to see her child again, admitted that he wanted to see her crying.

Trivia[]

  • Martin Flanery is based off Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States in terms of personality and his speech mannerisms. The High Sanctuary using him as a useful pawn may reference how Donald Trump is often associated with types such as Vladimir Putin or Kim Jong Un who seem to manipulate him for his own gain. However, in Skulduggery Pleasant: Dead or Alive, it's implied that Donald Trump and Martin Flanery are two different people when Omen mentions both individuals early on.
  • He's the second villain in the series after Batu to be mortal. However it's clear that it's Crepuscular Vies is pulling the strings, with the latter even messing with Flanery's head by claiming that he's actually Flanery's split personality who can use magic before admitting that he was merely joking.
