Gepard Voke is a Texan mercenary affiliated with Billy-Ray Sanguine.
In the buildup to the War of the Sanctuaries, he hires himself out to the Supreme Council, along with Persephone Grief and Barnaby Skulk.
Appearance[]
Voke is tall and narrow. Like all Tunnellers, he has empty sockets where his eyes used to be before he gouged them out. He has replaced them with blue-coloured cryolite glass eyes.
Personality[]
Voke is derisive, arrogant, and murderous. He values money above all else, and does not believe in doing things for free, even if it is for love. Despite this, Voke is not entirely heartless. He genuinely considers Persephone Grief and Barnaby Skulk to be his friends, and is proud of his Texan origins.
According to Billy-Ray Sanguine, Voke never thinks things through. This seems to be true: after his attempt to kill Sanguine goes wrong, Voke does not try again, nor does he attempt to escape. He tries and fails to face his death without fear.
Biography[]
Voke was likely born by 1798,[1] and grew up in Texas. At some point he befriended Persephone Grief and Barnaby Skulk, and became familiar with Billy-Ray Sanguine, who appears to be younger than him.
After a Dimensional Shunter's expedition team captured some razorworms, Voke became responsible for training them along with Persephone and Barnaby, intending to call them 'groundsharks'.
By 2013, the trio are in the employment of the Supreme Council, and send the razorworms to guard the English Sanctuary from Sanguine. A few months later, the American Sanctuary hires the group to arrest Sanguine, but as it is nearly impossible to arrest a Tunneller, Voke decides to kill Sanguine instead.
Voke uses the razorworms to herd Sanguine to an old house where he waits with Persephone and Barnaby. He admonishes Sanguine for forgetting his Texan origins and for killing for free. When the fight breaks out, Voke fights Sanguine underground, but is quickly subdued. Sanguine returns to Voke after killing Persephone and Barnaby, and Voke insults him before being killed himself.
Magic and abilities[]
Voke is an Adept, specifically a Tunneller. As such, he has the ability to burrow through solid surfaces, and to detect vibrations in the ground. Voke appears to be a skilled mage, capable of moving faster than other Tunnellers. His skills as a combatant and a gunman are considerably weaker, however, and he is entirely reliant on his magic and firearms to eliminate his targets.
