Gordon Edgley, Valkyrie's uncle, was a wealthy author of horror fiction who based his bestselling novels on adventures he had had with Skulduggery Pleasant.
Gordon and Stephanie's mother Melissa dated for a while until she met Gordon's brother Desmond, who later became Stephanie's father. Gordon chivalrously stepped aside and allowed his girlfriend to marry his brother; he did however go on to have numerous torrid affairs with many beautiful women. Gordon had an especially soft spot for China Sorrows, and while his infatuation with her could have been her magic, Gordon liked to think that his love for her was stronger than that. Gordon was known to have some books that China had dreamed about adding to her library.
When he was a child, Gordon’s grandafther would tell him, Fergus, and Desmond stories about magic and sorcerers, and claimed they were descended from a sorcerer called the Last of the Ancients. Gordon grew up believing these stories, which allowed him to discover the world of magic.
While he was still alive, Gordon imprinted his memory in an Echo Stone as a way of helping him with his writing. In Playing With Fire, Valkyrie found the stone in a secret room in Gordon's mansion and later took it to the Edgley family reunion so Gordon could see his family again. While being a separate entity from the real Gordon, the living memory in the Echo-Stone was essentially a perfect copy of the real Gordon. After learning that Gordon was dead, the "Echo-Gordon" had something of an existential crisis and convinced Valkyrie to hide his existence from everyone else until he felt ready to reveal himself. He told Valkyrie about The Torment and the Grotesquery, and in The Faceless Ones he assist Valkyrie in finding a new crystal to power the Sceptre of the Ancients, and points her in the direction of Anathem Mire's house in the caves underneath his house. In Mortal Coil, Gordon finally reveals himself so he can teach Fletcher how to teleport over 2000 Remnants at once. Over the course of the next few books, he offers advice and guidance to the others, most notably to Valkyrie herself. However, in The Dying of the Light, he is wiped out by Darquesse.
Description[]
Skulduggery described Gordon as "sharp-tongued, strong-willed, intelligent, doesn't suffer fools gladly", traits Stephanie herself possesses. Gordon was a cultured and sophisticated gentleman with a childish playful demeanor who had a great fondness for Stephanie, although he didn't have children of his own. He is shown to have an incredible ego and at first, cannot bear Valkyrie wanting to tell others that he exists for fear that they would see him as diminished.
