Gordon's Estate, also known as Grimwood House, is a big old house in North County Dublin. It was the residence of well-known author Gordon Edgley before his death, when it was passed down to his niece, Valkyrie Cain. For a few years, the only inhabitant was Echo-Gordon, and then it sat empty until Valkyrie returned to Ireland. She now lives in the house with her dog Xena.

History[]

The house was built hundreds of years ago by a sorcerer named Anathem Mire. Mire studied the Ancients and the Faceless Ones and built the house over the entrance to the Caves of The Void, where he made several expeditions. Just before he died, Mire conjured a replica of the house down in the caves.

Skulduggery Pleasant[]

Following the funeral service for Gordon Edgley, Stephanie, Desmond and Mellissa headed to Gordon’s house, along with most people from the service. Beryl spends the event searching for gossip, while Fergus stole some crockery from the house. Stephanie heads up to Gordon’s study, where she briefly meets Skulduggery Pleasant.

After inheriting the house in Gordon’s will, Stephanie and Melissa Edgley visit the place. When they try to leave, they discover their car has broken down. Melissa calls a mechanic who comes out to assess the car. He has to take the car to the garage to fix it, so Melissa goes along with him. Stephanie decides to stay as their is no room for both of them in the tow-truck. While there alone, Stephanie answers a call to the house phone. The man on the other end asks her name and demands to know why she’s in the house. When she hangs up on him, the man, Vindick Leather, begins pounding on the front door. He then enters the house through a window and corners Stephanie, demanding she give him some key. Skulduggery Pleasant then enters the house to stop him. While Leather is impervious to the fire he throws at him, he is injured after Skulduggery shoots him in the shoulder, and flees the house. Stephanie faints at the sight of Skulduggery. When she awakes, he tells her about magic and the war against Mevolent. When he goes to leave, Stephanie demands he takes her with him, and he reluctantly agrees.

After visiting China’s library to see if she has heard any rumours about Serpine recently, Skulduggery drops Stephanie back at Grimwood House, where Melissa returns with the car from the mechanic half an hour later to pick her up.

Skulduggery and Stephanie drive to Grimwood House to find the entrance to these caves when Skulduggery suspects that is where Gordon hid the Sceptre of the Ancients. They find that it requires a key to open, and as they leave, Serpine arrives with four Hollow Men. Serpine incapacitates Skulduggery and sends a Hollow Man after Stephanie. She defeats the Hollow Man by throwing them out of window, but by then Serpine has left. Stephanie calls China, and tells her that Skulduggery has been taken. China sends acar to the house that brings Stephanie to her in her apartment.

Having been given the key by Mr. Bliss, Serpine arrives at Grimwood House and uses it to open the entrance to the Caves of the Void. He is following shortly by Skulduggery and Stephanie (having taken the name Valkyrie Cain) in the Canary Car, who follow him into the Caves.

After Serpine obtains the Sceptre of the Ancients, Skulduggery and Valkyrie flee, chased by Serpine and his Hollow Men. When they are outside Grimwood House, Tanith helps fight off the Hollow Men. Serpine destroys the Canary Car using the Sceptre. A car pulls up, with China and her assistant in the front seat, and Tanith, Valkyrie and Skulduggery jump in as the car speeds away.

Description[]

The house sits on a hill surrounded by trees, with vast grounds and grand, heavy gates framing the narrow road. The house itself is “ridiculously big” with a great number of rooms, including a ballroom and a gym, and long corridors lined with Gothic paintings. There are also several secret doors and hidden rooms. A few months after her return to Ireland she began to rebuild the house to her liking. This included that she set up an ingenious room for her little sister Alice Edgley.

In the garden there is also a huge dog kennel with a space to run for Xena. In case Valkyrie is a long way away.
