The Jitter Girls are sisters and a group of villains that appear in Death Bringer.[1] Not much is known about them besides the fact that they give Valkyrie and Skulduggery a rather hard time, and they probably would have killed them both if one of them had not caused Valkyrie to change into Darquesse. It is indicated that they are incredibly powerful, as even China Sorrows expressed her surprise when she was informed that Skulduggery and Valkyrie had managed to defeat them. Derek, the author of the series, has confirmed that there are only three Jitter Girls.[2]

History[]

"Any poor soul tortured like that isn’t going to rest easy. They have too much pain to deal with by themselves, so they need to spread it around. That’s what I think, anyway. The truth is nobody knows why they came back, or why they started killing people. But that’s what happened."
— Skulduggery Pleasant, Skulduggery Pleasant: Death Bringer

The Jitter Girls are six year old Triplets possessed by a dark being at a young age in the 1930's. The dark being was said to have tried to sneak into this world through their minds, planting a "seed" in them. It is said to have probably not been a Faceless One . They were thought to be possessed by the devil and Skulduggery was called in, but couldn't help. They died in an asylum. However, they returned to life and now live in a box. Their mother sang to them as they died.

Biography[]

Death Bringer[]

"I’m not altogether sure, though, why we’re hiding from them. If they can fit into that small box, how dangerous can they be?"
"It looks like you’re going to see for yourself."
— Valkyrie Cain and Skulduggery Pleasant while hiding from the Jitter Girls, Skulduggery Pleasant: Death Bringer

When Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain go to Bernadette Maguire's house to interview her, they find out she has been recently killed using Adept magic. A mysterious man, who is later revealed to be the necromancer Bison Dragonclaw then brings a box containing the Jitter Girls to dump in the house to cover his escape.

The Jitter Girls trigger Valkyrie's turning to Darquesse, although this lasts periodically due to the fact one of the Jitter Girls was attempting to root through her brain and most likely, kill her.

The Dying of the Light[]

Skulduggery mentions them as an example of a magic that sorcerers have very little understanding of.

Trivia[]

  • Derek Landy came up with the idea of "the Jitter Girls" 10 years ago as part of an unmade script he did, which is also the same place as where he came up with the Cleavers.[1]
