Scrannel is a crossbreed and his mother was a Troll. He was a "pet" of Black Annis. After her imprisonment, he still lived in her cave.

He has milky white eyes that were set too far apart, he has no nose to speak of and a mouth wide enough to swallow a decent sized rock. He has high cheekbones and tiny teeth and only the barest hint of a chin. He is always wearing his suit of armour that was cobbled together from pieces of tin, and it clanked an awful lot.
