Shiloh Forby is a character who first appears in Midnight. He is a member of The Darquesse Society and works for The Irish Sanctuary. He is described as a small man with fantastic hair. He has minor confidence issues but is generally sweet to others. He is described by Temper Fray as "a little guy" and "nice enough, if a little weird."
Biography[]
Midnight[]
He makes his first appearance, calling a meeting alongside Sebastian Tao to discuss with the group his new position on the investigating team of the Leibniz portal. Him and Sebastian unveil a theory that would imply that all they need to find Darquesse is Faceless Ones' blood. Lily tells the group about how there's some blood in The Dark Cathedral; Sebastian, Bennet and Tantalus are chosen to break into it.
After Sebastian successfully takes the scythe, Tantalus attacks him with a knife before being overwhelmed by him. He goes back to the group and tells his (biased) side of the story before holding a vote to kick Sebastian out of the group. Nobody votes to kick Sebastian out (except Tantalus) and the group in turn unanimously vote (except Tantalus) to kick Tantalus out. Tantalus then complains that they can't kick him out due to it being his group, to which everyone else explains that it's not one persons group. He insults multiple people and tells everyone in the group to die before leaving.
Forby reveals he managed to get DNA from the scythe and manages to get the box searching for The Faceless Ones' universe. The box was able to scan 6000 dimensions per hour. Forby says that, while this may seem like a lot, when you factor in the fact that there's an infinite number of dimensions it isn't as incredible. He then reveals three possibilities:
- The search takes a day.
- The search takes fifty years.
- The search takes forever.
While Kimora thinks this is depressing, Sebastian highlights the fact that when they do find her, it'll be all the more astonishing. The group then nominate Sebastian as their leader.
Bedlam[]
At the beginning of the book, Forby texts the group, revealing that the box has found Darquesse. Unfortunately for the group, they need a Dimensional Shunter to open the portal, and the sanctuary has all shunters under contract. Ulysses reveals he knows a shunter and it'd cost nothing for him to open the portal, other than smuggling him into the city. When questioned, he reveals that the shunter he knows is Silas Nadir.
Everything goes successfully and Nadir is smuggled into the city. Nadir plays with the thought, out loud, of betraying the group and taunts Sebastian about the fact that he once was hurt by Nadir, but eventually opens the portal with no problems, thanks to Forby having added a loophole to the dimensional blockers when creating them.
Sebastian enters the portal alone, due to his suit being able to protect him. He uses Lily's yellow scooter to traverse the desolate land. When he sees Darquesse's corpse he is saddened deeply but he then sees her fighting the Faceless Ones in a magical form, needing a better vessel than Stephanie (Valkyrie Cain's reflection)'s body. He realizes that the fight will never end as both combatants have regenerative abilities. He begins the trek home, saddened, only to find Stephanie's floating corpse above him. The body regenerates to its former state and she silently goes with him.
