TDG and Adminship

On April 27th, I promised to TDG that I would mention the possibility of making him an admin on the community portal. So, it only took about 10 days to write this message. Damn, am I getting fast.

So thoughts? Alas, I'm again too sleepy to have an opinion. Manga (talkcontribs) 23:20, May 5, 2012 (UTC)

ಠ___ಠ I totally meant to leave this for you to make. Totally. --TDG.gif (Talk) 03:17, May 6, 2012 (UTC)

I'd like to get considered as well. Both me and TDG were promised Adminship when the Wiki started to get more users. I believe that's happening. Blogman12 08:49, May 6, 2012 (UTC)

I was promised before you. That does seem to be the case, but as it is, the community is not growing, just the amount of anons and users making noobish edits then disappearing simultaneously.
I'm not saying I have a problem with your promotion also, it's just that the only three active users being admins seems pointless...
Ah, what the hell. Better safe then sorry. Consider a vote for me, a vote for Blogman too. --TDG.gif (Talk) 07:57, May 9, 2012 (UTC)
Then consider a vote for me and you as well. Blogman12 16:09, May 9, 2012 (UTC)
Doesn't that mean we both have three votes then? o_o --TDG.gif (Talk) 07:09, May 10, 2012 (UTC)
If you want my vote, you two check your user rights pages. Kingbirdy 01:06, May 11, 2012 (UTC)

*FAINTS* Hehe. Thanks for this :D Blogman12 16:44, May 11, 2012 (UTC)

Thank you, Birdy. *tries not to twitch from the fact he still has rollback* Hm. I wonder if I can remove that... --TDG.gif (Talk) 07:31, May 14, 2012 (UTC)

Locked Pages

I personally believe the pages for unreleased materials should be semi-protected, at least. The pages for books 8 & 9 should be fully protected until something can be added. Thoughts? --TDG.gif (Talk) 10:38, May 15, 2012 (UTC)

Agree with semi-protecting the unreleased pages (includes characters and stuff) and fully protect (except Admins) for Skul 8 & 9. Blogman12 14:48, May 15, 2012 (UTC)

hm...we've not really had any issues with vandals before, why not wait until it's an issue before we start locking out parts of the userbase from editing? Kingbirdy 02:01, May 18, 2012 (UTC)

Aye, I was perhaps too hasty. However, judging by the history of Death Bringer and Mortal Coil, and perhaps the movie and KotW, I'd say it's a necessary precaution. We can drop the protection levels when the release date is closer. Or when Derek starts writing it. --TDG.gif (Talk) 07:25, May 18, 2012 (UTC)

Changing "Biography" to "In Books"

Should we? Personally, I think it has more class. And it would work better if/when a movie comes out. --TDG.gif (Talk) 11:39, June 26, 2012 (UTC)

Since we've started to replace the whole "Book as section" thing with other names (we have started doing that, right?), it might not be the best fit. Manga (talkcontribs) 20:46, June 26, 2012 (UTC)
Hm. Yes. We could have a section for movie inaccuracies or something. --TDG.gif (Talk) 01:08, June 27, 2012 (UTC)
We could take the books as "canon", and put the film in a "Behind the scenes" section perhaps, ala Wookieepedia? Although, that might seem a bit harsh to the poor film viewers (on the other hand, I'm usually all for oppressing the fans of most book-to-movie adaptations). I think the Harry Potter wiki sort of merges the films and books together for their purposes, but I'm not sure that's the best idea.
For now, let's take solace in that the film, and the wiki nightmares it holds, are well into the future. Manga (talkcontribs) 17:38, June 27, 2012 (UTC)

I think we should keep both, so 'biography' could contain 'Magic', 'Personality', 'In Books' etc. 'Behind the Scenes' should be for the film, while 'Trivia' can hold all the info already in Behind the Scenes. Blogman12 17:55, June 27, 2012 (UTC)

^ This. I agree with Blogman here. --TDG.gif (Talk) 02:09, June 28, 2012 (UTC)
Just to bump things a little, look at this page here. It's got the right set up, I think.
It has KotW spoilers too. So watch out if you haven't read it. --TDG.gif (Talk) 07:39, August 12, 2012 (UTC)

Link colours

Orange? A bit more suiting to the colour scheme of the first book. And for the hell of it, can the logo be orange too? It should match the icon Manga is making. ;) --TDG.gif (Talk) 05:43, August 12, 2012 (UTC)

Damn, I keep forgetting about that icon. Will work on it. Some time. To be honest, I'm not sure I like the idea of changing link colours. Messes with the basic structure of the internet. What if it causes the collapse of the internet as we know it? Manga (talkcontribs) 21:16, August 12, 2012 (UTC)
But black and blue is not really Skulduggery-like. Purple-y like the forums? --TDG.gif (Talk) 06:45, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

Referencing the books directly?

You know, like the Harry Potter Wiki does. We can do it too. There's tonnes of people on the forums that will search through the books if you only ask. I'm sure we can do it. :) --TDG.gif (Talk) 07:01, August 12, 2012 (UTC)

I'd approve of referencing the books, it'd make fact-checking much easier. I don't suppose the pages are the same between the hardbacks, paperbacks, ebooks, and whatnot? Because that'd make things really easy. Manga (talkcontribs) 12:34, August 12, 2012 (UTC)

If it's what I think it is, I agree with book referencing. Someone do it first though before I start :P Blogman12 21:47, August 12, 2012 (UTC)

@Manga: Far as I know, it's the same pages. People with different book versions on the forums always find the same stuff in the same spot. --TDG.gif (Talk) 06:44, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

Adding age to character templates

Just a simple idea, adding age to the character templates. I know we have birth, but then there's those who can't figure out the age becuase they simply don't know how to, or those who don't know when the book it's set in. Blogman12 18:04, August 15, 2012 (UTC)

My only fret is that we'd have to update it every book and if we're not given a birthday that could get really messy. Manga (talkcontribs) 15:59, December 23, 2012 (UTC)
Or we could do what Wikipedia does, and have the age change every year through maths. --TDG1-derp.gif (Talk) 05:59, December 24, 2012 (UTC)

Publication order

How should we classify the publication order of the books & short stories?

Marino312 (talk) 19:02, December 22, 2012 (UTC)

I would try to order them in rough in-universe order. So, for instance: Skulduggery Pleasant -> "The Lost Art" -> Playing With Fire -> etc. If that gets too messy, release date. For the short stories, that'd be the day each new paperback was released. Manga (talkcontribs) 15:59, December 23, 2012 (UTC)

I've thought of two things to nag about, both concerning the navbar. Firstly, could you add to the "other" list? Secondly, could you add a novellas column containing EotW & tMS? You could also add the two web micro-stories to the short stories column. Did I confuse you? Marino312 (talk) 19:27, December 29, 2012 (UTC)

Good call. I'll change some things then. --TDG1-derp.gif (Talk) 01:52, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

Short Stories

The third thing on my "hit-list" (Sorry, I'm on a roll) is concrning the defenition of short story. Here is a a list of terms that cropped up on this wiki & perhaps we could more clearly define them:

Short Story: This has two terms on this wiki: The 5 stories published at the back of the paperbacks(with 1 only available abroad; I'm not going to name them here. Go to Skulduggery Pleasant series & look under the short stories section for them.) It is also an umbrella term for every piece of in-universe literature other than the 7 books, tom percival artwork & unreleased film.

Novella:This would be The End of the World book as a whole (The individual sections within could fall into one of the next categories), The Maleficent Seven & Untitled Short Story Collection. As for the latter, this will probably be the same as EotW: The book as a whole can be called a novella but the stories within would be one of the next two categories. As it's not due out until 2014, I think we can worry about that then.

Novelette: A dictionary definition I found is:A story shorter than a novella and longer than a short story, 10,000-20,000 words long.

Micro-Story: This would refer to the two blog stories Trick Or Treat & The Button.

I think we should dump at least one of the above terms to make it more concise.

Here is how I think it could be structured:

Main Series --- Umbrella term

Novels (stays the same) ---9 books

Other Literature ---Umbrella Term

Novella (stays the same)--- The 3 books mentioned above

Novelette (replacing term "short stories")--- The 5 paperback shorts

Short Story(Replacing the Term Micro-Story) ---The 2 Web shorts

or something like that. I've tried to make this as clear as possible. Have I succeeded?

Marino312 (talk) 15:28, December 31, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, but this seems obvious and it's basically how we've got it set out anyway. --Thatdevilguy5.PNG (Talk) 09:23, January 1, 2013 (UTC)

Important Questions Compilation

We should compile a list of important plotholes or places where we're lacking knowledge for important things (that dont seem like they'll be touched on later, so obvious not stuff that's being set up for the next two books). That way, whenever someone from here goes to a signing, he has a Q/A, what have you, they could ask a few of these and we'll have more info. Kingbirdy 04:40, January 21, 2013 (UTC)

I don't think this is needed at all. Fans can form their own questions, without our assistance. Besides, it's more fun if you think you're asking something no one else has asked. —Resident Devil 09:14, January 26, 2013 (UTC)
