Skulduggery offers a staff to the zombies by throwing it in the hole where they came out of, before saying it's their's to destroy. According to Skulduggery, if they did not get out of the graveyard by midnight, they would inherit the curse. A hound then appeared and proceeded to chase them, probably with the intent of eating them. They escaped, and the hound vanished.
