One of these artifacts is a wooden box, carved with many symbols, that has been enchanted with twenty-three spells by twenty-three different mages, and that box contains a fabled insect. The legends say that the insect rose from the carcass of a slain demon. The insect has the power to drain a sorceror's magic with a single bite.

- The artifact that appears in the short story appears to have the opposite function of The Accelerator, a device that boosts people's magic. It is possible that they were built by the same person, Doctor Rote.
- It is also possible that they were God-Killer Artifacts, built by The Ancients.
