The Unnamed was Mevolent's master before Mevolent started The War. Not much is known about the Unnamed, except that he did not have a True Name, but was still able to perform Magic. During the events of Bedlam he is resurrected by Abyssinia. In a painting at the Great Chamber, he is shown as a man burning in black fire.

In Skulduggery Pleasant: Midnight, it was revealed that he was the father of Abyssinia and therefore the previous King of the Darklands.

In Skulduggery Pleasant: Bedlam, The Unnamed is brought back to life by Abyssinia. He claims Caisson's body as his vessel and takes back the powers he had bestowed to her.

Magic and Abilities[]

As an alleged direct descendant of Faceless Ones who had taken human form, The Unnamed is an unfathomably powerful sorcerer. His magic and vitality is so potent that nothing short of the most powerful God Killer, The Obsidian Blade, is said to be able to kill him. Abyssinia states that he possesses many powers but so far he has only shown accelerated healing, the ability to burn in black flames and the ability to fly. His knowledge of magic and alchemy is vast enough to bring his daughter back from the brink of death and is strong enough to (temporarily) prevent his own from what is said to be the oldest and strongest God Killer in existence.

It is unknown what else he can do and where his magic comes from as he has no True Name. It is implied that his family’s strain of magic and their ability to drain the strength/lifeforce from their opponents is hereditary, unique and quite possibly Neoteric.

Biography[]

Bedlam[]

It is revealed that The Unnamed survived the initial attempt on his life by Mevolent. Using powerful and obscure magic he slowed the effects of The Obsidian Blade and fell into a deep hibernative slumber. When his daughter became pregnant he was aroused from his long slumber as an old and frail man weak and near deaths door. He sought out his daughter only to find her grievously wounded in the aftermath of a failed plot to overthrow Mevolent. Using his vast arcane knowledge he brought Abyssinia back from the brink of death. Unfortunately, due to the injuries he had sustained his powers were not enough to heal her wounds. Death seemed all but certain. Abyssinia, up until this point, had no idea that she had in fact been taken care of by her father and asked to know the name of her saviour before she died. The Unnamed revealed himself and informed her that he had survived Mevolents coup but was in fact slowly dying himself.

He had, however, come up with a plan to save them both. When her child was to reach a certain age she was to end his life and allow The Unnamed, whose soul would be stored within a Soulcatcher until that point in time, to posses her son's body and rise anew as The King of the Darklands reborn. In exchange he would give her his vast magical powers allowing her to heal her wounds and return stronger than ever. By gifting her his magic it would allow him to shed his frail and decrepit form as without his powers keeping it at bay the damage caused by the Obsidian Blade would be allowed to take full effect, killing him. Just moments away from dying and with seemingly no other choice she agreed and in exchange The Unnamed gifted her his power, healing her, and thus he finally died. Succumbing to his wound inflicted upon him by The Obsidian Blade all those years ago. Abyssinia kept her end of the bargain and his soul remained in a Soulcatcher hidden and safely stored away.

At the end of Bedlam, Caisson is grievously wounded. Abyssinia, in her grief and despair, commands Nero to fetch the Soulcatcher containing her father. Despite Skulduggery and Valykrie's pleas, Abyssinia releases her father's soul into Caisson's body. The Unnamed, now inhabiting Cassion's body, returns to life. He proceeds to take back the power he had granted Abyssinia before healing the damage done to his new vessel and flying away.

Seasons of War[]

Near the end of Seasons of War, The Unamed in Caisson's body appears and begins to fight Melevolent in the streets of Roarhaven. The fight comes to a close as it seems The Unamed has won by crashing into Corrival Academy where the Darkly Prophecy comes true and Auger Darkly kills The Unamed with the Obsidian blade.

Trivia[]
